Congrats to Lynne Breil, president of The Professional Edge, Inc. and member of Inside Small Biz for this recent coverage in Inc.com/news

Etiquette for a BlackBerry Generation

Wireless technology has certainly trained us to be constantly available to clients and supervisors, but it may have muddled the traditional rules of business etiquette. Is texting during a client lunch ever acceptable, and what should simply never be said in an email?

To help bring a generation of tech-savvy executives up to speed in face-to face communication, The Professional Edge has announced a new addition to its lineup of business workshops. Master Your Message: Workplace Communication Strategies for Executives is led by the company's president Lynne Breil and will include tips on effective listening strategies in the office, avoiding behaviors that stop effective communication, and choosing the appropriate communication approach.

Training sessions range from a keynote presentation to a two-day workshop and are catered to a company's individual needs. The average cost ranges from $3,500-$5,000. Breil is available for nationwide travel. For more information, see theprofessionaledgeinc.com.

Specializing in Small Business Growth Opportunities

This is the program I wish I had 19 years ago when I started North Star Marketing. I soon discovered there wasn’t anyone who was going to give me conclusive answers – I was on my own – sink or swim.

Along the way, I made a lot of mistakes and now I want to keep you from making the same ones so you can be successful without the anguish that I went through.

Almost 20 years later, as a specialist in small business growth opportunities, I've started Inside Small Biz.  I love working with Small Business Owners and being their megaphone to world and getting them discovered!

So, do yourself a big favor and grow your business the smart way. Inside Small Biz is avalailble for you to join now.

I look forward to working with you.

Monthly Review

Congrats to Lynne Breil, The Professional Edge, Inc. for snagging some great Public Relations lately.  A recent release got her coverage in Inc.com and an interview with a trade publication in the meetings and conventions industry.  Great work, Lynne, and we'll be showcasing the coverage when it comes out!

Is it good news or bad news that neither candidate seems to really care too much about the Small Business Owner? Since Small Business runs America - about 85% of all business are in that catergory - shouldn't we be using our collective strength to get more action from these candidates?  What about heavy taxation, huge regulatory costs, high labor burdens and other issues that we deal with on a daily basis?  It's a tough call with these guys and nobody is looking too pretty...what to do...what to do!

Olive Riley, known as the world's oldest blogger, recently passed away at the age of 108.  Riley, an Australian, blogged regularly about growing up in the Outback, raising three children and working as a farm cook and a bartender earlier in her life.  Kudos to Olive for staying active and using technology to share her life with the world.

7.14.08

I was on vacation all last week and had a blast.  It's the first real vaca I've taken in a long time and loved the total downtime, along with lots of golf and entertaining.  One work highlight, though, was an interview I did with a Fortune Small Business reporter.  I'll keep you posted as to when it's going to appear on their special small business web site.  Great coverage for Inside Small Biz!

7.3.08

It's time to celebrate America and our freedom to create great businesses that contribute to our community and our country.  Without our basic belief in free enterprise, Small Business Owners wouldn't have the opportunities we have in this great county.  We are still the land of free and the land of opportunity.  Celebrate the greatest country in the world!!!

6.30.08

Welcome to Inside Small Biz new member Margherita Schuller, president and small business owner of Diva Farms, a company in Utica, NY. Diva Farms sells garlic products to retailers, foodservice and also does private label products.  Welcome Margherita...we're looking forward to getting to know you.

I never met Tim Russert, but like many of you, I've watched him for years.  And trusted him.  He was direct, insightful, honest and probably had the greatest political perspective of any current broadcaster.  With his front row seat on current politics, he was able to give us all a greater understanding of the machinations of the parties, the policies and the personalities.  We honor him today and will miss his wit and wisdom.

Congrats! to Inside Small Biz.  Today we made the top of the list in Google News Alerts for a press release, "The Five Kinds of Money Small Business Owners Need for Success."  It's great to know that Google has found us!

Summer brings long, lazy days and an antysness that affects everyone about Friday at noon. So, we have Fab Fridays where people can leave at noon, if they've put in their time during the week - either come in an hour early, stay an hour late, etc.  It's a big hit and something you might want to think about for your employees and specifically for yourself.  Make a commitment to renew yourself every Friday afternoon and enjoy the summer with your family, go to the golf course or take the kids to the beach.  You'll be a better Small Business Owner because of it and your employees will love it.  We have Fab Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, because like everything else, people start to get used to it and it stops being special. But, for the summertime, Fab Fridays are golden.

"Small companies have huge competitive advantages.  They are uncluttered, simple, informal.  They thrive on passion and ridicule bureaucracy. Small companies grow on good ideas - regardless of their source.  They need everyone, involve everyone, and reward or remove people based on their contribution to winning.  Small companies dream big dreams and set the bar high - increments and fractions don't interest them." Jack Welch, former CEO - GE

I just got off the phone with Bank

of America - got a little steamed up with how they have socked it to me with an interest rate of 31.24%, even though they told me that I've been a great customer for 10 years.

Read all about it on my blog - http://insidesmallbiz.wordpress.com.
